Facts About Food Insecurity
The World Food Program reports that one billion people around the world suffer from food insecurity, an issue that is especially prevalent in low and lower-middle-income countries. Currently, only two out of every ten children receive any form of intervention. Many children in Nigeria have stunted growth. In fact, the country has the second-highest burden of stunted children globally, with 32 percent of children under 5 affected (UNICEF). Stunted growth in children has been linked to poor cognitive development, diminished performance in education and low productivity in adulthood. Giving Back to Community provides programs that empower the poor in communities to have food security and be better educated.
